To start off our Indie Girl Feature of the Month, LeFashionista
speaks to Geftaki
Swimwear.
How would you define your style? Haute Couture
meets Rockstar Chic with a hint of Old Hollywood Glamour.
Who do you envision wearing your creation?
My mother tells me that since the first time I was able to
pick out my own clothes, I was trying to re-design them and
make the style very much my own. I have a profound appreciation
for accessories and the way they can be used to modify a look.
While working for other clothing lines, I learned about the
manufacturing aspect of the clothing industry.
Was it something you always wanted to do?
Of course! I'm a girl -- clothes, jewelry and makeup -- that's
what we live for, right?? All kidding aside, I have always
loved clothes, and I grew up in the jewelry business; so I
wanted to find a way to combine two things for which I have
a very strong passion. I feel I successfully did this by designing
a heavily jewelry-inspired line of swimwear.
Who do you admire design wise? John Galliano,
for Christian Dior. He is so crazy with his freedom of design.
Every year, he makes you appreciate a completely new aspect
of fashion. Nothing is ever boring and it's just. . . well,
it's just damn cool! I admire his ability to be able to stay
on top of cutting-edge fashions for as many seasons as he
has while making it look completely effortless. He has paved
the way for many up-and-coming designers and truly is a living
legend.
Where do you see your designs going in the future?
I think my designs in the future are going to incorporate
some prints, metallics and stretch lace. I have been asked
so often, "when are you going to design a collection
for men?" I think that my 2009/2010 will probably feature
not only men's fashions, but also a children's collection.
The men's collection will definitely be designed for the man
who is very comfortable in his skin. My designs are also heavily
inspired by my personality. Future collections will certainly
be reflective of where I am personally in life.
What's the one item from your collection that you
feel everyone must own? The Drawstring Cover up Dress.
It is made from a stretch mesh material that is both beautiful
and functional. It can be worn several different ways. It
can be a cover up over your swimwear. It can worn over a camisole
top and paired with either a skirt or jeans for a totally
different look. This is definitely an item everyone should
have in her wardrobe because it has an incredible fit and
looks great on EVERYONE!
